State Feeding Programs

The network of CAB licensed feedlots is committed to helping Angus producers with post-weaning value discovery. In addition, nearly 20 state or regional feed-out programs are available through state Extension beef specialists and Angus associations.

Many participants in “feedout” or futurity programs send a handful of cattle to represent the entire herd. Others use it as a way to market calves that would otherwise be discounted for small lot size at the sale barn. Either way, it’s a good opportunity to get some initial performance data back on your cattle.

These programs may be scattered across the country and operated by universities, cattlemen’s groups or breed associations. They provide anywhere from a peek to a detailed view of a herd’s progeny performance beyond weaning and carcass quality on the rail.
