License Your Feedlot

Create networks and add value

Feedlot licensing is an essential step in providing for the future growth of the Certified Angus Beef ® (CAB) Program and increasing opportunities for the producers and owners of Angus-influence cattle.

CAB’s Feedlot Licensing Program (FLP) is responsible for increasing the number of high-quality, Angus-influence cattle available for feeding and processing. We do this by creating networks throughout the supply chain that help producers and feedlots improve beef quality.

The FLP is size-neutral, accommodating to all sizes of feedlots to facilitate two-way information flow between packers, feedlots and all sizes of Angus seedstock and commercial cow-calf operations.

CAB-licensed feedlots add value to cattle by following management practices known to maximize the genetic potential of Angus-influence cattle. Working with cow-calf producers, stocker operators and cattle feeders, licensees can coordinate management practices like nutrition, implant programs and sorting strategies to allow the Angus genetics for carcass quality to be fully expressed.

CAB provides licensees quality assurance training and relevant information on nutrition and management practices that impact carcass quality and CAB acceptance rates. CAB monitors licensee performance based on established guidelines and tracks cattle from feedlots to licensed packing plants for evaluation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Licensed feedlots benefit from information feedback, quality assurance training and other advantages of being linked to the world’s leading beef brand. Licensed feedlots are listed in commercial Angus publications and informational materials that target commercial Angus producers. Feedlots receive assistance in locating genetically superior Angus-type cattle that perform on grid-based marketing systems.

For a successful partnership with CAB, it is important that feedlots share similar interests with CAB in producing quality cattle. To learn more about a feedlot, managers are asked to fill out a profile letter that addresses these aspects of their feedlot:
